Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why does my child need Varsity Care?

A child away from home for the first time may be unprepared for an unexpected health related event. Varsity Care is your partner to communicate with you and advocate onsite for your child during the actual event as well as helping them learn to independently navigate the healthcare system.

  2. My child will be leaving for college soon. When does Varsity Care start?

As soon as the Authorization Form is uploaded, your student is covered. At this point you both should make yourself familiar with the Varsity Care service. Starting about a week before the semester starts, your child will receive a Welcome Kit with more information.

  3. How will my child access the service?

Varsity Care makes its process simple and easy. You or your child can log into your Varsity Care account through the website, and there will be an option to select the service you need. A quick form explaining the details of the service will be sent to Varsity Care and Varsity Care will take care of the rest! You will receive a confirmation that the service you requested has been assigned and completed.

  4. Doesn’t my personal insurance, under which my child is covered, or University sponsored insurance cover these services?

In one simple term: No. University or personal insurance, covers treatment not care. Consider these examples:

When’s the last time your prescription was delivered to you when you were too sick to pick it up?

    or

When was the last time you were in an Emergency Room or Urgent Care, far away from home, waiting for a medical professional to treat you and a private duty Registered Nurse arrives to advocate for you and provide loved ones with real time communication? Neither school nor private insurance provides these benefits. This is why we founded Varsity Care!

  5. How do you maintain such a high quality of service?

It starts with the team. The founders, Halley Ascher and John Bartos, are committed to excellent customer service and student care 24/7. John has 20 years of healthcare operations experience, and Halley is a Registered Nurse and lawyer with management and bedside nursing experience. As VC leaders they bring extensive, unparalleled and diverse expertise to Varsity Care. We have a team of experienced, well trained Registered Nurses who act in our Health Facilitator role and a team of vetted Runners ready to go!

  6. Is your service just for the first year of college or can my student use it throughout college?

Your student can enjoy the benefits of Varsity Care throughout college – there is no limitation.

  7. What happens if we purchase the service for a semester and do not use it, is there any rollover of services?

Unfortunately not. In order to keep our service at the lowest price possible we have to offer it on a per semester basis without rollover.
